ＣＤではよく聞いてましたが、ＤＶＤもあると知り、手に入れました。ダイアー・ストレイツの映像を見る機会にあまり恵まれなかったのですが、生の演奏も凄いですね。今ではイギリスのギターレジェンドになっているマーク・ノップラーのギター演奏、歌どちらも言うことありません。彼のようにギターを弾いて歌えたらと思わせてくれるミュージシャンです。スティールギターのポール・フランクリンのプレイもいいです。ちなみにＣＤで聴いていたブラザーズ・イン・アームズのギターはギブソンとばかり思ってましたが、このＤＶＤを見て違うと言うのが初めて分かりました。勉強になりました。

70 年代~90年代のダイアー・ストレイツMTVの集大成ビデオで、ファンなら買って損はありません。

ダイアー・ストレイツの楽曲だけでなく、16~18曲目はマーク・ノップラーのカントリー・ユニット「ノッティング・ヒルビリーズ」のもの、ラストの「ゴーイング・ホーム」は、マーク・ノップラーのソロによるサウンドトラック「ローカル・ヒーロー」からの曲と、幅ひろく収録されているのも魅力です。

また、ダイアー・ストレイツの音楽クリップは、映像的にもユニークで優れているものが多く、「マネー・フォー・ナッシング」の当時画期的だったCGアニメはあまりにも有名ですが、「ウォーク・オブ・ライフ」はスポーツ珍プレー集、「ヘビー・フュエル」には、映画「インディペンデンス・デイ」で活躍した俳優ランディ・クエイドがヘンなおじさん？役で登場したり、「コーリング・エルビス」はなぜかサンダーバード！と、さまざまな映像もお楽しみのひとつです。

すでに風格すら感じさせる７８年の衝撃のデビュー作。パンク・ムーブメントの中、いい音楽はやはり売れるということを証明したアルバム。発売当初こそは、本国イギリスで特に目立ったチャートアクションがなかったが、まずオランダで火がつき、ドイツやオーストラリアでもヒットすることで、やっと本国でも徐々にヒット。翌年になって6「Sultans of Swing(悲しきサルタン)」が本国でついにトップ１０入りを果たし、アルバムも３０週の間、イギリスでチャートインした。
ディランを意識した歌い方、乾いたようなギターの音が日本では何故か受けないが、6はロック史上に残る名曲だと思うので、是非とも聴いてもらいたい。
